[ARCHIVED] Cold Weather Update for Mascotte Residents

2026 Late Jan. Cold Weather Event

Freeze impacts will continue through Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026. While the record-breaking cold and dangerous wind chills experienced earlier have eased, another night of widespread freezing temperatures and frost is expected tonight into Tuesday morning.

What to Expect

  • A Freeze Warning remains in effect for much of East Central Florida.

  • Medium to high chances (50–95%) of freezing temperatures are expected Tuesday morning across much of the area.

  • A low to medium chance (20–45%) of a hard freeze remains for more rural and northern inland locations.

  • Patchy frost may linger into Wednesday morning, particularly northwest of I-4 and in rural areas south of Orlando.

  • Looking ahead, a late-week cold front could bring overnight lows below 40°F on Friday morning, February 6, though confidence in timing and impacts remains moderate.

Warming & Shelter Resources

Lake County Office of Emergency Management continues to support cold weather response efforts:

  • Cold Weather Shelter
    Lake County Agricultural Center
Open Monday and Tuesday night, 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM

  • Daytime Warming Center
    Salvation Army (Leesburg location)
    Open Monday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Tips to Help Prevent Freezing Pipes

  • Allow faucets to drip slowly during freezing temperatures.

  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.

  • Insulate exposed pipes, especially those located outdoors, in attics, or in garages.

  • Keep indoor temperatures consistent, even overnight.

  • Disconnect outdoor hoses and cover exterior faucets if possible.

  • Know where your main water shutoff valve is located in case a pipe bursts.
