As of 7:45 AM this morning the updates are as follows:
Town Closures
The City of Mascotte will be closed Wednesday and Thursday and will reopen on Monday for normal business hours. Due to the storm the utilities department will not be imposing late fees till October 21, 2024, and shutoffs will not occur until 7:00 AM on October 22, 2024.
State of Emergency
Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a State of Emergency for counties including Lake County. This morning the City of Mascotte also signed an Emergency Order for our city.
Sandbags
The County has seven (7) sandbag locations that will be open till noon today. There is a limit of 10 bags per day per household. Sand and bags will be available on-site - residents should bring their own shovels and will need to fill their own bags. Assistance will be onsite at two locations for those who need help filling and loading their bags. Please check with the county's citizen hotline or emergency site to verify locations are still open and have sandbags to provide as they could close earlier depending on weather conditions.

Shelter Information:
Lake County will open 15 shelters for those who need accommodations during the storm. The shelters will open Tuesday, Oct. 08, at 12 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring necessary supplies such as medication, bedding, and a pet carrier or crate. If you are not sure whether you should stay in your home or go to a shelter emergency management is strongly recommending residents to seek out a nearby shelter.

Residents who need help getting to a shelter should call the Citizens Information Line to schedule their travel. LakeXpress, Lake County’s fixed-route bus system, will be providing free rides on Wednesday to travelers who state they need to be taken to a shelter. Free rides will continue to be given until conditions become unsafe. Riders must tell the driver they are going to a shelter to use the free ride.
Schools
Lake County schools and district offices will be closed Tuesday, October 8, 2024, through Thursday, October 10, 2024.
County Operations
Lake County Offices will be closed Wednesday, October 9, 2024, through Thursday, October 10, 2024. Office reopening will be assessed based on conditions.
Trash Collection
The City of Mascotte has just notified by GFL that Wednesday recycling collection will be pushed to the following week.
Thursday trash collection will be pushed to Saturday and Friday trash collection will not change, normal routes.
Citizen Information Line
The County's Citizens Information Line (CIL) is now open for 24-hour operations. There number is 352-253-9999. 9-1-1 should only be used to request emergency aid.

Stay prepared by signing up for real-time weather alerts via phone, email, or text through the city's notification system which can be found on our website at www.cityofmascotte.com . Residents are strongly encouraged to sign up for alerts with their local municipalities and the county.

Other Information
There is a potential for 6" -12" of rainfall throughout Lake County. At this time experts are of the expectation that Lake County will receive at a minimum 6" of rainfall but could be up to the 12" or higher for parts of Lake County. Hurricane Milton is expected to hit land as a major hurricane south of Tampa however, as the system continues to wobble this projection could change. Lake County continues to under hurricane conditions. While rainfall is expected throughout the day, winds are not expected to increase until after sunset tonight. At this time we are being told we could expect heavy rainfall and damaging winds between the hours of 4:00 AM tonight through 10:00 AM Thursday or somewhere therein. Tornado warnings and watches are a possibility later today through tomorrow. Again, if you are not sure if you should stay in your home, please seek out one of the nearby shelters. Last, if you have debris out in your yard we are urging you to put it away. If you are unable to put away we ask you do your best to secure it.
